TEST DRIVE MEME #7
Arrival
Broken Palace by Jonathan Eng
0:07 / 1:13
▶︎
During 2014 Jonathan Eng composed the soundtrack for interactive narrative experience The Sailor’s Dream, consisting of a mix of instrumental tracks and a seven-part musical story told in folk song-form.
Like all who come through the summoning circle, your arrival is heralded by a dream. Waking up is a dizzying, disorienting thing... and possibly made worse by the fact that you aren't alone.
Right after you appear, so does someone else. If you're lucky*, they'll simply blink into existence by your side. If you're not, there's a chance they spawned below or above you. That's one way to make a memorable first impression. Best untangle yourselves and get things figured out.
If you're extremely unlucky*, instead of another person found at the summoning circle, it's a monster. Bones rattle and metal clangs as it attempts to attack its newest target. Some may welcome this is. If you aren't the fighting type, hopefully someone nearby is. Eventually, one of the local Town guards will slay the monster before it - and you - cause too much trouble or lose too much blood. They have more than enough to deal with in light of recent events so the sooner you're safe, the better.

RESTORING THE PEACE

The restoration efforts in Town are well under way, as well as the surrounding towns that suffered from Athaerrlexii's attack. Raumm has taken it upon themselves to not just restore, but upgrade the homes of Town even further.
Proper plumbing and electricity are now amenities that people can enjoy. With an outpouring of support from Vorrun and New Svihelen as well, each new home is given the latest in technologies. Central heat and air, water heaters, refrigeration, working lights, and electric stoves! All are powered by installed water wheels that have been placed in the surrounding streams and creeks.
Life is slowly returning. The community of South Kamurkia has come together to ease the burdens of those who have suffered. Fields are tilled, soil-fixing crops planted. It’s not perfect, but the people’s gratitude for the help of the people of Town is evident. Now they get to return the favor.
Many of the player wish-created structures have become safehouses for those who were displaced or are waiting for their homes to be rebuilt.

- ⁂ Academia Anyder is being used to house many of the currently displaced people. Not only Town, but the surrounding places like Ich and Hast are also in tatters after the attack leaving many without homes for the time being. Keep them company, tell them about the structure's history, or anything else to help make this troubling time easier!
⁂ All The Way Inn is also offering free lodging and meals for people who are unable to provide for themselves. Of course, the one woman alone running it can't quite keep up with demand so she's offering some gold for anyone willing to forage, hunt, or fish to keep up with feeding the displaced populace.
HEROICS... ON STAGE

In the wake of everything, it has also been revealed that the primary residents of town were not the only ones who had a dragon soul bonded to them...
Akkelion, a large, charismatic black dragon has come to explain that his soul has laid mostly dormant in Dimitri. This was done to protect his soul from being consumed by Athaerlexii, who had a penchant for consuming the souls of her constituents to restore herself and gain more power.
Similar to the souls that have bonded to you, Akkelion existed within Dimitri. When Dimitri was faced with the truth that Athaerlexii was not vanquished, he was unable to cope with it. You see, he will tell, that she had at one time coveted Akkelion for herself! When he did not return her desires and instead married Dimitri, a lesser dragon, she was deeply affronted. When her plans at last unveiled to remake the world, she created a special hell for Dimitri in retaliation. To forever attempt to stop the inevitable and be forced to watch all efforts fail again and again, she took their daughter from them. Unable to defend himself, much less move out of sheer terror and despair, Dimitri would have perished in the attack.
So, Akkelion took over! He is borrowing Dimitri's body while the other takes his time to recover mentally. Rest assured, the same will likely never happen for any of your own bonded dragon souls. They have a particularly strong connection, and Dimitri’s own draconic lineage allows a more seamless flow between them.
Akkelion will stick around as long as he is needed and pass the reins back to Dimitri when he is ready to face the world again. Anyone who converses with him will find him to be a great source of wisdom, but also levity. He gladly shares stories about the days of paradise in which they once lived. His career as not just the Architect of the draconic city, but his true calling, as an opera singer. It’s clear why Dimitri had married him. He’s not just charming, he has a warmth that he conveys on to those willing to accept it, and his good nature offers no small amount of comfort.
In fact, some of the younger denizens of Town have taken such a liking to his tales that they're putting on limited play productions of his adventures. Whether volunteering or roped into it, both new and established characters will find themselves on stage doing perhaps one of the following:

- ⁂ Acting: The main thing to do on stage! A lot of it will be improvised based on Akkelion's direction and context, so do your best! All that really matters is making a good show for the audience. You may be another hero or, perhaps, a foe of the past to be vanquished. Make that stage death super dramatic for the best results!
⁂ Music: Do you know how to play an instrument? No? Well, do your best! They can probably find a triangle or drum to beat to a simply rhythm. If playing isn't your strong suit, then perhaps singing could be! Most people will be kind, at least, if you also aren't the best at that.
⁂ Stage-hand: Maybe you're more artistically inclined and want to make props with other villagers. Although rudimentary, some people will be needed to move stage sets and enhance special effects. People are free to use dragon abilities for this in order to make it seem more realistic as well!
DIAMOND RUSH

As for Charlie... well! He’s talking again at least. He’s still terribly small, just a wisp of the dragon he once was. He can no longer assume his human form, and tires easily. He must take time to recover even a bit of his power.
Which is why he has called in some assistance.
Meet Meinard.
He may have a rather depressing looking visage and stink of alcohol on most days... but he is a wizard of great renown. Dreary demeanor aside, he is also capable of resurrection and wish spells. Both of which unfortunately do not come quite for free any longer. He is in need of diamonds. Meinard assures you, they are an essential spell-component. He has only a few to spare to begin with but many more will be needed if he is to stand in for Charlie.
He will prioritize the draconic-bonded individuals for first revivals, but he has no intention of leaving anyone out, npc or otherwise. It will be a slow and exhausting process, but it only goes to highlight how much power Charlie spent trying to fend off his mother.
Speaking of revivals: Anyone who died during the event will be brought back, but it will feel a bit different. They will be summoned and restored directly to the table the spell is cast on, and they will suffer some disorientation and weakness for a few days following. Meinard recommends bed rest until they regain their faculties.

- ⁂ So, what are you waiting for? Get to digging! Hast has some small deposits that they will open up to those who are hunting for revival purposes as they suffered losses as well. Although they might demand a small cut of any findings for their own, they're offering incentives for the more adventurous to find these diamond deposits deep in the depths and among danger.
⁂ If you try to dig straight down, you will run into either undead, water, lava, and come up short of your goal. You're free to try though! We understand the Minecraft urge.
⁂ Eventually, some people will learn (or maybe just realize) that diamonds can be created with creation magic. Of course, this will take a large toll on anyone who tries to make them and be extremely limited in how much it produces.
